Today I got my Tips&Tools Weekly and it had a Revit Tip!
Now its pretty kewl, I can select multiline text, Ctrl+Shift+L will give me bulleted lists...
I also found that Ctrl+Shift+A will change from Caps to Uncaps, and Ctrl+Shift+ < or > will change the size of text.
Sigh.....once I hit enter or click out of the text box all formatting goes away. :|
Did I miss something or is this just a function of Windows that Revit does not comprehend?

Those would all be very cool if they worked! :(

Not only bulleted lists, but if you keep pressing Ctrl+Shift+L will switch between bullets, numbering, etc...

More to this:
Looks like these are just Rich Text Controls and will work on any Windows application... but Revit... :-(
More shortcuts:
CTRL-L / CTRL-R / CTRL-E will align paragraphs left, right and centre.
CTRL - = will subscript text
CTRL-SHIFT - = will superscript text
CTRL-1 / CTRL-5 / CTRL-2 gives single, 1.5, double line spacing respectively
CTRL-' / CTRL-` / CTRL-, / CTRL-; / CTRL-SHIFT-6 gives a grave accent, acute accent, cedilla, umlaut, circumflex on the following letter (UK Keyboard)
CTRL-BACKSPACE deletes previous word
CTRL-INSERT / SHIFT-INSERT will copy and paste
INSERT toggles Insert/Overwrite mode.
CTRL-SHIFT-> / CTRL-SHIFT-< increases and decreases font size of selected text
CTRL-SHIFT-L toggles various bullet styles

What am I missing? I select a piece of Revit text with three lines not via word wrap (i.e. two carriage returns) and CTRL-L does nothing. Tried it when selecting the text object, when in the text object for editing, but no text selected, and in the text for editing with two lines of text selected. Nothin' happens. Not that it matters if it is only cool till I am done editing then the coolness goes away. Oh, didn't work when editing Project Address either.
Windows XP SP2 and Revit WU1 if that makes any difference.

Highlight text inside the text box, and hit CTRL-SHIFT-L...don't forget the shift.

Oh ... when ... when will we see changes to text editing in Revit ... only been asking since R2 ... ... ... "give them time ????" Perhaps I don't understand the meaning of "time".

Yep, that Shift was missing. Trying to three finger a little too fast. ;) And yep, while in edit mode Windows standard tools work, and then Revit throws away the edits. I am very confused as to why Autodesk would use the API edit tool and then throw away the results. And even more confused as to why they would leave it that way for years? Perhaps topics like this will be covered in that AU class?
That said, something that has gone unmentioned is that the original Cadalyst tip seems to be somewhat lacking. Did they not notice that everything went away when done editing? Did they assume that because it works fully in AutoCAD perhaps, and worked in the edit mode of Revit, it must actually work in Revit? OK, so that isn't such an outlandish assumption, but still... Anyway, perhaps someone needs to let them know they need to issue a retraction.

Yeah I don't get this... a tip in a magazine about something that doesn't actually work correctly? Wow, some tip that is
Also, I could never get it to toggle between caps and lowercase with Ctrl+Shift+A

For some reason Ctrl+Shift+A works for me.
This is so frustrating, akin to someone putting a beer in front of you but not letting you drink it.
Hoping Scott can chip in here on behalf of Autodesk and reveal a timeline for fixing this...... hopefully in web update 2 fingers crossed.

As I mentioned in my post above, I think this is just Rich Text formating. In another words, it is more a Windows thing than a Revit thing. On top of that, I just tested in Revit 9.1 and it was already there but no one noticed... Maybe even in earlier versions...

Scott,
Did you get the formatting tao actually stay after exiting the edit mode? If so what are your settings and REVIT version?

Okay....its not just me....
I was just about to post the info on our sharepoint site and showing people in my studio the kewl stuff Revit can do....then it was taken away! ~Sigh~
Here's to hoping the text tools get better one of these days.....
is this something that's going to get fixed???

If this were the case - Windows 7 surely would fix it.

What I meant was the formating. Formating by using those keys is available on any windows application that accepts text formating. Now keeping the formating is another thing, and that Revit can't do, even on Windows 7 I think.

Confirmed - still does not work in Revit with Windows 7.
Works fine in all other applications but not Revit. This is the fault of Windows .... ??? .... doesn't sound right to me.

While not the ideal solution (not to be confused with a complete revamp of the entire text editor in Revit,) what I just realized is that you can use a the character map to create a bullet in Revit text. I guess the shortcut is Alt+0149, or you can access it from the window character map and copy and paste into Revit.

Hey there,
That and just find a font which is "all caps" and swap out your mixed case font for that one to switch to all upper case. I have had to do that for certain plan check reviews where they would not accept upper & lower case text.
Happy New Year
