Hi.
I'm making some custom workstation families. I sketch some lines for a solid extrusion. I'd like to get the square foot area defined by those sketched lines: the square footage of the desk.
Possible?

Hi Mike,
Edit the extrusion > Select the sketch lines > Copy to clipboard > Start a new filled region > Paste the sketch lines there > Finish the filled region and go to its properties. You can see the area in there.

Interesting. I noticed masked regions are available for creation within families. Revit will report the area of the masked region. What I've done so far is make a masked region underneath my workstation, locked to the same ref planes as the desk surface. I'm still working on getting the masked region area to be available once I load the family into my project.

If these are rectangular desks, you could just do a calculated value of the lengh x width to report the area of the desk.

No, they are L-shaped. I guess I could set up two area calculations based on parts of the ell, but I was hoping for something slicker.

As the Area filed in teh filled regions and the masking regions arent shared parameters, you wont get them to show up anywhere but the properties box (like a schedule).
Doing it with Area parameters and formulas is the way to go, even for the El. Then you can have an overall "AREA" parameter that reads from all workstations, EL and straight alike, for scheduling...
