I am using Revit Architecture 2008, and I have a Printer that only print 8.5"x11" pages. The problem is that I have a Revit project and I need to print this out in 24"x36" sheets.
What I usually do when I draw a project in Autocad is create a plot file from the cad drawing. I have a printer type in Autocad that has all the differents pages sizes (including 24x36), so what I do is just select this printer type and create a 24x36 plot file.
The problem is that when I am in revit and go to the printer dialogue menu and try to select the printer, I only see my small printer (only prints 8.5X11). So the question is: how can I insert the "big printer" style into the revit menu printer so it allows me create 24"x36" plot files?

I hope I am being clear in my question.

Thanks.

Revit will only list the printers (and their paper sizes) and drivers that are installed in Windows. In another words, if you can't see the same printer that is listed in AutoCAD in other softwares like Revit or even Word, it is most likely not a printer installed in your system.

Are you trying to print the 24x36 sheets onto the letter size? Or do you have access to a 24x36 plotter as well?

If you do have access to a plotter install the drivers for it even though you don't have it installed. That way you can select it in Revit and print to file using that driver.

Another option is to print to PDF....

Thanks Andre. Looks like I am going to have to look for somebody that uses a big printer and use revit in order to print my stuff out. I though since I was able to add a printer in Autocad, even though it was not installed directly in my system, I would be able to do the same thing in Revit.

You are welcome. But I still didn't get what you want to do. I'm assuming you don't have the large printer and wants to create a file to send to print somewhere else, isn't it? If that's true, the follow Michael Patricks' suggestion and generate a PDF from your sheet. Once you have a PDF driver (to create PDFs) installed in your system, then you can create plots in any format you want.

Or just use the Revit's own DWF to print...

If you're looking for a PDF creator, I'd recommend either CutePDF or PDF Creator

CutePDF is good for doing single prints.
PDF Creator can do Batch prints.

Yes, I do not have a large printer and I need to create a plot file and send to print to another place, that is what I do when I work in cad: I create a plot file (24x36), because in cad I can select not my small printer, but a bigger one, even though I do not have install it in my system.

And Dave, I do have a "pdf creator" but I only can select small paper sizes 8.5x11. Is there a web site that I can download a pdf creator that allows me to create pdf in large pages?.

Thanks guys.

Which PDF creator do you have? You should be able to go to its properties and create custom paper sizes...

I knew I should have included a couple of links ;)
When I said PDF Creator, I didn't mean just any PDF Creator. There is a (free open-source) program called PDF Creator at http://sourceforge.net/projects/pdfcreator/
You can set it up to do most anything you want. The only thing I don't like about it is that it ignores the path name from Revit and pouts the files in the folder that's set in PDF Creator.

For the onesie-twosie plots, I like to use CutePDF http://www.cutepdf.com/
It asks for the location and name of the PDF file, but doesn't work for Batch processing.

Good luck
