Fluids?

I was cleaning up a template file and when I went to purge the file there is a catagory for fluids and it goes on to list about 10 different types of Ethylene glycol and propylene glycol. Where do these come from, what use do they have, and why would I want them?

could this be for mechanical guys and calculating volumes of fluid in pipes or tanks?
