The idea that we would navigate a 500,000 square foot model as complicated as any gaming environment using a mouse is preposterous. Why cant we be able to use the keyboard arrows at least or a joystick. The 3D navigation tools for buildings in Autodesk Products are not easy to use yet - they are better suited for small rooms or small objects.

Hi, I'm new to Navisworks, but I've been using the keyboard arrows to "walk" through the model. My apologies if I've misunderstood. I'm using manage 2009.1

Try using the walk mode. Click on the feet and experiment with it, it's a much easier way to move around with a mouse for me.

The left button allows forward/backward, left/right movement.
Mash the track wheel and you can change elevation up/down.

I use the mouse buttons too.I thought the thread starter wasn't able to use the arrow keys. The 3D navigation tools amentioned above look cool. I'm trying to get one to trial.

I find the easiest navigation tool to be orbit.

Leaving it in orbit allows you to zoom in and out via mousewheel, and pan around when holding the mousewheel down.

Further to that.. it should automatically 'focus' on the entity/component that is closest to dead-center on your screen.

Occasionally there's a need to switch over to walk-thru (ctrl-2), but 90% of the time I'm using orbit.

Personally I use Walk 70% of the time and Examine the rest of the time, I do not like orbit at all but I seem to be in the minority.

I'd say I use walk upwards of 80% of the time. I use Orbiter to get my audience sea-sick and adjourn meetings early.

Nothing is better than the 3d motion controllers, been using a space explorer for 18 months, and will never go back to using a mouse. I have it in the fly mode, and I can fly as fast as superman, or as slow as a snail.
