Am I missing something in view range/visibility or is the only way to show a hidden line under your footings indicating piles by using symbolic lines in the family?

You can also make them visible playing with the view range and then using the linework tool to make them show as hidden lines. Once you do that, you can move back you view range extents to where it was before and the linework in the piles will still show as dashed lines. Since the linework is attached to the object, moving the piles will also move the dashed lines.

It won't let me show hidden under the object (because both objects are extrusions in the same family?), and adding linework shows the piles, but also changes the footing outline to the same linetype. (lower primary range is below the lowest footing, and depth is unlimited)

Probably easier as a symbolic anyway, since I don't have to manipulate each object individually.

I was just hoping I could show hidden under the main footing as a visibility setting, but it doesn't look possible.

Using the out of the box pile cap with piles doesn't work?

I don't want the whole thing hidden, the outline of the footing wants to be the focus of the footing plan

Symbolic works, the lines seem to be happily following my piles around when I flex the family. I'll just have to drop a visibility parameter on it if I find I need to hide the lines in any plan views.
