View Full Version : Filleting Polylines in 3D?

I am trying to fillet Polylines in 3D using either Polyline or 3D Polyline.

When I use the fillet command for Polylines I get an error message saying
that the Polylines are non coplanar.

When I try to fillet a 3D Polyline I get a message that says "3D lines can not be filleted.

All I am trying to do is create radius's to create a piece of pipe.
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike

A fillet will only work if both lines are in the same XY plain. You can try to change your UCS. Good luck.

Thanks, I have experimented with the UCS's but I can't figure out how to
get everything in one plane. I can fillet all the XY planes or all the Z planes
but not both.

I was trying to extrude a circle to follow my pline path.
Looks like I may have to change course and bring in block of 90's
and straight pipe and try that.

Hi

Can you post a simple example drawing file (.DWG), maybe just containing two Polylines that you would like to Fillet.

Have a good one, Mike

Do your plines meet/cross at a point? If so, the two far endpoints and the intersection point can be used to create a new UCS. If they don't meet or cross, use the Lengthen command so that they do cross.
Anyway, a library of 90 degree bends is always useful.

Here is a sample simple dwg of what I am trying to do.

Right.
AFAIK, you can't do that in AutoCAD (and I'd love to learn otherwise.)
You have two (2d) polylines, each with a fillet in the middle. To join them would create a 3dpoly and they cannot contain arcs. If you Explode the pline with the vertical element, you can Fillet the last horizontal line with the horizontal pline. You can rejoin the rest of the Exploded pline parts but that will still leave you with two plines.

Hi

Might want to have a browse of the following threads, you will find links within them to routines / tools that can convert 2D Polylines to 3D Polylines -

Join 3D line to 3D polyline (http://forums.augi.com/showthread.php?t=7945&)

3D Polyline offset? (http://forums.augi.com/showthread.php?t=7935&)

Have a good one, Mike
