Hi all,
I have an interesting junctioin between curtain walls and concrete columns and I am interested to see how others would solve this issue.
Please see attached image of junction.
It is pretty easy to make the plan "look" correct with some detail lines to simulate cover pices etc, however in the elevation the columns and curtain walls do nnot sit flush to each other.
How do you hide this junction in elevation and simply show one single line where the frame meets the column face?

I think you have 2 options.
Option 1 would be to create a custom mullion for this condition. Just figure out what the dimensions you need are, draw up a mullion profile, and load it into a new mullion family. The pro of this approach is it would eliminate the extra line that you described. The con is that you may end up w/ a whole mess of different mullions depending on how many conditions you have. A parametric profile family could help matters - but I think this will be pretty project specific.
Option 2 would be to use a hosted vertical wall sweep, again with a custom profile. You would add this piece on to the end of your mullion/curtainwall to fill in the void. The pro of this approach is that this most closely represents what would most likely be the actual construction approach - hence maybe a bit more BIMy. The con would be that there would still be a line at the end of the mullion on your elevation (though I might argue that the line should really be there :). Again you may also end up w/ a whole slew of profiles to sweep if there a lot of different conditions.
I'd go for Option 2 personally.
Hope that helps.

Both excellent suggestions. Thanks for your reply.
I do agree that it should be modelled as it will be built, however at a 1:100 scale, too many lines means a very messy elevation.
Option 1 would actually be more correct for us anyway, as we normally use a cover plate that will wrap around the frame and back to the glass line and as such will onlt see the column and frame edge.
Thanks again

Ok,
I have the vertical mullions working correctly, however the base and top mullions / transoms are still square to the glass line. How do i ge these to meet the column at the same angle as the vertical mullion???
Any ideas??

Wouldn't the vertical be continuous, at least through the top mullion? For the sake of clarity you could make it continuous through the bottom or sill mullion as well. Then the sill condtion will appear correct in plan using your custom mullions.

Absoulutely correct.
I realised this not long after I posted the last comment.
Making it continuous does fix the problem.
Thanks for your reply. Always appreciated.
