I'm having some problems with phasing. I've demolished a window and the exterior finish of an existing wall and left the framing. (I constructed the existing stud wall and the finish as two walls and attached them together) They are created in the existing phase. I've also added a new wall finish (that is its own wall) and attached it to the existing stud wall in the New Construction phase. Now I'm trying to add two new windows that are larger than the original opening. Revit added an in-fill in the spot that the existing window was but when I place the new window it only cuts the existing stud wall and part of the new wall (the finish) but not the in-fill.
When i try and join the new exterior finish to the original stud wall (so that it will cut the in-fill) it gives me the message "One element is completely inside another". Along with "Highlighted elements are joined but do not intersect".
I've tried moving the window down the wall to where it cuts properly but when I move it back the same thing happens. Or in another case, the first window will work, but when i add the second window it won't cut that one. As you can tell i've been fiddling with this for a while.
I suppose I could demo the whole wall and finish and rebuild it, but then my demo plan won't be right!

Please Help!!

Try doing the same as I do:

See my attached example.
- There's a view called Existing where I drew one wall and added a window.
- Theres another view called Demolition, where I'm demolishing the window. Revit make it dashed and add the infill.
- Then there's another one called New Construction, where I've added two big windows (new construction) approximately where the infill is and also added a new finish wall (also new construction - small on the left). The finish wall is not joined to the existing wall just to show my example.

Now, in the new construction view, drag the new finish wall all the way to the same extent as the existing wall. You will notice that because they are not joined together, the new windows on the existing wall won't cut the new finish wall. Using the Join Geometry function join both existing and new finish walls. You will notice that the new windows will cut both walls BUT exactly where the infill is we'll have a problem. That's what I think is happening to you.

My solution to cases like this is very simple: Just select the new finish wall, exactly where it is not being cut (and is coinciding with the infill). Just change it to any other wall type from the list. Now change it back to the type it was before... It will work.

Go figure...

Hey it worked!! Go figure it would be something as easy as that. I never would have figured that one out. Thanks for the help!
