View Full Version : DWF Mark-ups and Comments Overlays – Dreaming?

Am I just dreaming or is this reality? What I am thinking is possible or I what I would like to see and would like to know how to do if it is possible is… the ability to do mark-ups and comments on a DWF set of a Revit model drawing set… then be able to bring these mark-ups into the model as an overlay so that the draftsperson can see them on the model as they do the work to effect the changes and fixes requested as per the mark-ups… I stop short of allowing the person doing mark-ups from going in and placing marks and notes on the drawings directly, since these could inadvertently end up showing up on printed drawings… verses a marked-up DWF overlay could be unloaded and loaded at will…
Is this possible and how does it work? And would the overlay have just the mark-ups or a copy of the drawings as well?... O.K. lots of questions on this one… Looks like I could use a good tutorial if there is one…
This is my dream idea for today… Anyone have any comments let me know… Thanks…

No, you are not dreaming! This can be done. You just have to markup your created DWF's, save it and then go to Revit > File > Import/Link > Link DWF Markup Set. It will bring only the markups and not the DWF as overlay.

Well, I think I am still dreaming... I have tried to create a DWF set of my project... multiple times now... both separate files... all in one file... and in groups file sheet series... but all ending in the same frustration.... I can't get the full set to print full size and complete without a crash or fatal error... I can plot this set fully normally to plotters and printers and PDF with no problems, but DWF if shot...
So I entered this form again and looked around and found more discussion on this and found that this seams to be common... and more over there was comments about issues with crashing when linking back the file... so this would have been stage one of this... so I am not sure if we want to walk down this path yet...
I will dream for a smoother path in the future... hopefully with fewer bugs... (it could be my old version again... then I can curse my company for their stance of no upgrades... Which I have been fighting tooth and nail... older build of 2008 ) :(

What version/build of Revit are you using? This really only became a fully functional round trip kind of thing recently.
Try reducing the DWF raster quality setting in appearance section of the print setup to MEDIUM or even LOW rather than HIGH or PRESENTATION.
I would encourage you not to give up on this because it is a pretty slick way to do review and mark-up. In addition to the ease of use and environmental aspects it also creates a 'digital paper trail' that can be very useful from a project manaegement aspect.

Build 20070810_1700 Yes! I know old!... And I am not giving up on that either... We have 2009 sitting on the desk, but there are some fighting against it... which I have no idea why and how they get to have the power to stop the forward motion.... I am currently using it more solidly than anyone here... others have only touched it and converted back to AutoCAD... One other has gone on, but not on anything of substance... did lots in the presentation side... I have on the other hand produced more of the design and working drawings for the full set on a more complicated project...
I have tried again on this to do the DWF's... I manage to create them one at a time and found one page that gave trouble... nothing really special about it... 24 elevation views and 3 floor plan views... other than the fact it has lots of views...
I suspected another page that had lots of views and overlaid views for a phasing document with colors and shading. I thought it would be a problem, but it was fine... it took forever to process but it finished in the end 10 to 20x the size of most of the other file sizes...
I may convert this project again to 2009 and do some testing of this stuff. I have been reviewing it and trying to make a case to jump up... So maybe this will give me another stone to through...
