View Full Version : Subscription, Update - Requires CD?

I was wondering if there is a way to take advantage of the subscription center without having to get the CDs out of the manager's office, and re-authorize the software every time there's an update. We've done it for Revit and now need to do it for AutoCAD.
Shouldn't the security of the login to the subscription center be enough?
We're a small firm, and we don't have an official CAD manager and it's a huge interruption to everybody to have to go digging CDs out every update. I suppose we're right in the middle where we're not big enough to have network licensing but big enough that there are too many computers to go seat hopping with several CDs.
Any answers to this?
Thanks.

I'm pretty sure the only (legal) way of doing it is w/ the disk.

Yes, a minor annoyance.
I have to call my IT department when I want an update.

It would be nice if a setting were left on the machine for the purpose of the upgrades. Fortunately, I get to keep the disks at my desk, but can't guarantee how long that will last. My supervisor allows me to do things no one else is allowed to do. :D

Thats odd, I never have to use the disk to do any updates. I am running off of a license server. Does that have anything to do with it?

I'm no IT guy, but I think that has everything to do with it.

Not really........I have my own license and still need the cd.

I think the real question is it matters how you deploy the software. If you make an adminstrative image for deployment, then no you shouldn't need the cd since the install is on the network (unless you change the drive of the installation). This works in network and single seat license systems. Also when I make an admin image I also prefer to copy the CD contents to the network so I can rebuild my image without the disc. I do have control over the discs, it is just much easier to build images without loading a disc every time I want to make a change. Hopefully this clears things up!
