View Full Version : Revit 2009 display performance: not fixed in WU2

I've downloaded the WU2 update with the hopes that display performance (zooming, panning, just getting around) would be fixed.

But unfortunately it hasn't. I have an SR on the problem that's still running, and if the problem bothers the rest of you like it bothers me, then you should let Autodesk know.

OpenGL is a must for us as we often have shadow enabled in views. I had a poll (http://forums.augi.com/showthread.php?t=82074)earlier asking people to compare 2009 to 2008 in terms of display performance. So my question now is this: if you have OpenGL enabled in 2009, and display performance is about the same as 2008 or faster, what hardware are you using? Include what operating system you're on and what combination of video hardware and drivers that you're using.

Thanks in advance!

I have Open GL on, and i see no display performance hit in 2009, whatsoever.

Windows XP32
HP XW8200
Xeon 3.40 GHz, 4 Gigs RAM (3/gs enabled, 3.25 visible)
nVidia QuadroFX 3400
nVidia driver: 6.14.10.9185 dated 3/19/07

But i suppose it could be slower than youre expecting, and its just ALWAYS been that way for us... in 08 and 09, but i doubt it...

I've had to disable OGL here at my office workstation: Quadro FX1400, Core 2 Duo, 4Gb.

My laptop works fine: Dell M90, Quadro 2500FX, 4Gb.

One of our video cards needs to be replaced -- I am going to try a Quadro card and see if I get better performance out of it. I'll let you all know what I find...

I have a QuadroFX 3500 and have had no problems, OpenGL is on. WU2 even "seems" a little faster, although I have not run any tests or anything to verify.

So Steve, would you say it's as fast as 2008 was?

We noticed a slow down and upgraded our RAM only; from 1Gb to 4Gb and it did the trick. Works faster than 2008, even on a large 150,000 sf retail center.

HP XW4100
Windows XP 32
Intel Pentium 4 3.0 ghz
4 Gb RAM (3.5 enabled)
NVIDIA Quadro4 380 XGL (64mb) - A little out of date, but works
I always have Open GL Acceleration enabled, never received negative effects by having it enabled

Again, it's purely subjective since I haven't run any speed tests on any of them, but subjectively I would say yes. I also only noticed a minor speed hit with even the original version of 2009...

I have an update on my support request.

Revit WU2 is still about 30% down in display performance from Revit 2008, and the Factory hopes to address this in the next major release. So hunker down till March on this one, kids

We have a Nvidia Quadro FX 1700 on some of our workstations. It really does not like the 3GB switch at all. If the switch is enabled Open GL becomes unavailable, which kills our perfromance.

I do nottice the graphics are a little slower for Revit 2009, over 2008.

FireGL v7600 is blazing fast with opengl :) A bit expensive at $800 though....but think about it, if you waste an hour a day waiting for views to regen it will pay for itself in a month or two

We have tried V3xxx cards and V5xxx cards with no appreciable difference in day-to-day, rendering, printing, or any other tasks for that matter. Are you saying that, all other things being equal, that these high-end cards are giving you faster navigation and refresh rate? Because on a large project, a live walkthrough with the SteeringWheel isn't very exciting

Walkthroughs are still unbearable on large projects, but for normal 2d and 3d views there is almost no regeneration, I was using a v3400 before, which like you was horribly slow and I had to turn off opengl to get decent regens. I don't see how the video card could affect rendering and printing though?
