Compound walls and columns

Well, I'm working on a stick-built wood-clad renovation project with engaged piers near the entrance. I'm looking for a column or something that will cut the wall's sheathing. The columns aren't structural, so I don't want to use structural columns. Architectural columns get wrapped in sheathing layers unless they are changed to "don't automatically attach", in which case they don't cut the sheathing at all.
Any help?

Perhaps build the whole assembly with walls and no "columns"?

Or maybe build the column from a wall based family containing the column and a void cutting the wall exactly where the column will be. This should cut the portion of the wall you don't want and accomodate the column in your project.
