Searched the forums, but could not find any threads:

Is there a way to "detach" or dissassociate a curtainwall ( or roof, etc.)
from the Mass that it was originally created from the face of?
( I suspect not.) Maybe this is a Wishlist item?

If not, then we are stuck with the Mass thruout the duration of the project?
Of course the Mass can be turned off or hidden--but it would be great if we could use Massing for concept design, create objects w/ Building Maker, then detach them from the parent Mass.

Cheers.......

I ran into this very issue a while back and found that there was not a clear way of doing this. Once you create your curtainwalls from a mass object, you can’t detach them without issues. If your curtainwall needs to change or be modified by length or height, in a lot of instances you need that original mass to edit it, especially if the walls are sloped. Otherwise you can’t change the curtainwall and have to recreate it. This means any dimensions or keynotes and tags associated with the curtainwall also disappear, so in my experience it has always helped me to keep the mass object throughout the project.

The underlining mass object used to create your curtain wall/ roof/ wall/ floor is the only way to control these elements later.

You can simply delete your mass without deleting created elements but then you loose your "lifeline".

I learned to live with the mass lurking somewhere in the project and waiting to be summoned.

It's not that problematic, as you might first think.

As suspected...
It's not that I really mind having the Mass in the project--it can just be turned off.
The point is, I would like to be able to "free up" the curtainwalls/roofs, etc. once I've created them from faces of the Mass, realizing I'll lose their parent/child relationship.

I just want the freedom to choose whether they stay linked to the Mass , or can be independent of it, at a time of my choosing. After "unlinking" from the Mass, I could use normal editing tools--and not have to edit the mass and re-create each time a change is needed.

Perhaps this is a candidate for the Wishlist, if not already published. I shall check and see, and if not already included submit as a wishlist item.

Looks like you can "cut" and then "paste -> same place" to break the link and keep the mass in the project. You could then select the curtain wall and "edit face selection" (via option bar) to link things up again if you had the need.

UpNorth,

We could not get our curtainwall to "detach" from the mass by cutting and pasting in same place as you mention.

The "edit face selection" button is still there after cut/paste.
