We are having issues with importing to Trace where the program will only read the space name. Since we do not update the space names (no need to) this puts a rather large burden on us if we want to use the gbXML export feature.

It would be nice if the Space Name was automatically set as the room name, UNLESS you check an override checkbox which lets you put a custom name and number in.

This way engineers will have the ability to create custom spaces, but we also can bind our spaces directly to the architects model for the majority of the building.

I agree!

Revit should provide some way to import the room names and numbers into the equivalent space name/number. This information should be left in an editable state also so that after importing the data we can truncate names if we so desire. This would help save a lot of time when running loads from a Revit project.

There are tools to do this now, the original post is rather old. A search should provide some answers.

tys90,

I did a few searches of the forums but found nothing. Could you reply with a link if you are able to find something?

Thanks.

Avatech has a free tool and if you are a subscription customer, Autodesk has a free tool in there as well. I use the autodesk tool http://forums.augi.com/showthread.php?t=94389&highlight=space+naming

EDIT: Jason beat me to it with the same EXACT search I did

Yea, but I only beat you because you took the time to actually explain. I was lazy and just posted the link ;-)

Unfortunetaly this tool only changes the space tag, and not the actual space parameter. When we go to export to TRACe via a gbxml, the space names get imported into the TRACE file. How can we get the room names into the gbxml and TRACE file?
