View Full Version : Cannot Locate SHARED PARAMETER FILE!

I am trying to use shared parameters with my title block. I realized that my shared parameter wasn't added to the project, so I attempted to add it. But, when I click File > Shared Parameters, a message comes up asking me to browse for the shared parameter .txt file. I looked all over and I can't seem to locate it - It always has come up automatically in the past...Does anyone know how to solve this? Which folder does this file typically reside in?

Thanks!

This is hard do say. But if you remember the name of one parameter from the shared parameter file, you could try searching your drive (including subfolders) for files that containing the parameter name within it.

Windows search should find it for you.

If all else fails you can create a new and export the shared parameter from the file that has the parameter to recreate it so you can add it to your project. Check the help documentation for the steps to do so. I loosely cover it in my blog article (http://revitoped.blogspot.com/2005/10/ignore-good-advice.html)

I was just looking through Revit 09 Help, and apparently, you can't use shared parameters with title blocks anymore. Any thoughts?

Can you point out where you saw this and clarify?

Have you checked under your library content, wherever you install your default Imperial/Metric content for the file?

[Edit} For the record, and I did check it for my own sanity [Edit: then went to Steve's blog and read his detailed explanation there], Shared Parameters do work with Titleblocks in RAC2009...

You can but only with Labels. I wrote this at my blog (http://revitoped.blogspot.com/2008/08/shared-parameter-no-you-cant-yes-you.html)
