View Full Version : Upper levels of project slow?

We've been running Revit about a year in our office now, and hitting our stride in terms of training, etc. But I've noticed a consistently-appearing issue with respect to performance. On the upper floors of buildings (the roof and 3rd story, typically), the floor plan views start slowing down badly.

As far as I can tell, this is because as you mouse around the program is looking at objects below the work plan as well as those on the level you can see. Any thoughts on what we're doing wrong? This has affected more than one project, so it's not something special to the project itself.

Thanks in advance!

Is the performance hit when you pan around the view, or when moving objects. I have worked on several multi level buidlings and have never had any diference in the first or last level as far as performance when working in the view and moving around the view. The thing that affects performance is the amount of information in the particular view (notes, objects, etc), but I think they are independent (isolated) when viewing and so the lower stories shouldn't affect the upper stories. In my experience, the roof lvl usually has very little info, so it is the nimblest when viewing.

It happens both when panning and moving. And these projects are all well into the CD stage, so the amount of annotation is relatively constant from view to view going up the building. Strange, huh?

Also, nice av! =)

It might be your View Range
Make sure that in the View Properties you View Range Bottom is set to your current Level. Likewise the View Depth in the VR dialog.

I've also wondered about the Far Clip setting. 2009 introduced the Far Clip option to Views.
For some reason it's called Depth Clipping in plans and Far Clipping in Elevations.
Anyway, the default is No Clipping. I'd like to know how Depth Clipping and View Range relate to each other.
If you have a View Range Bottom set, but No Clip, which takes precedence?

I've had a chance to check and the View Range and View Bottom are set to the levels in question. These projects are in 2008, so the Far Clip isn't available to try out. Maybe on the upcoming projects (all in RA 2009), we can try that.
