Multiple sessions of Revit?

Hi All, I'm wondering if it's really a good idea to have multiple sessions of Revit open at once. I ask this because of this rather large site plan we're working on. I would be treating it like multiple users accessing the file. When one session is grinding away, I could switch over to the other session, and work on something else. This shouldn't be a big problem since my workstation has a quad core processor. The different sessions would work on different processors.

Please let me know your thoughts.

Ive had up to three running at once, without an issue. When i say without an issue, obviously im disregarding the possibility that your computer doesnt have the resources to perform in that fashion though, lol...

But i do it with linked files all the time...

If your licenses are distributed through the network, I think you will be pulling one license off each Revit session you open. This shouldn't be an issue if you have more licenses available...

I'll just get a phone call from IT saying I need to close a session. After lunch I'm going to create a second local file & have two sessions open.

No problems haveing the same user name?
Wouldnt this confuse the central file
ie: User1 has moved a wall so 'owns it'. User1 in different session moves the same wall. Would the central file mistakenly allow this?

You can change your user name once you start up the second session. I do it all the time ;-)

I also often invert one of the background colors to remind myself which session I'm in.

and FWIW I've happily run Revit 32 and Revit 64 alongside each other on Vista 64

I did not think this was the case. I recall one license being pulled for one station, regardless of dual session... it has been a while and i am now off NW, so i may be mistaken.

I may be mistaken, as i dont work with network licenses all that much, but i believe its like this: each session of WINDOWS takes one network license.

So if you start two sessions of Revit, it only uses one license.... Unless the second session is running on a VM set up. Then it requires an additional license.

But i very well may be wrong...
