View Full Version : Complicated roof form won't cut

I'm attaching a roof from a project I'm working on right now. If you edit the roof you'll notice that you can't use the void to cut the solid: Revit responds with "Can't keep geometry joined".

Too bad, since this shape took the designers a few days in Rhino to work out and it was fine there. You can't really import Rhino objects into Revit since the DXF/DWG exports from Rhino are brutally tessellated/triangulated. I have heard that Revit may sometime import geometry from such programs far better than it does now. More's the pity that time isn't today.

Anyone from the factory have some suggestions on making this form voidable?

Hi Wes,

I tried creating a void as roof hosted family (a skylight without glass) and it seemed to work. Width and length parameters seemed controllable, but finicky in some locations.
Not sure what you are trying to void, how much control you need or the other factors so not sure how much use it will be to you.

Hmm - interesting... I'll see if I can use that idea to cut the in-place family roof with a family from outside the project.

Thanks, Dimitri... I don't think I would have tried that!

So that makes the score 200 for you 4 for me right?

I think the score's more even than that.

Did I ever thank you for sending me off to the CGC website to get fire rating information? That gets you 50 points all at once!

I still am a bit in awe of how much there is to learn about everything.

Fortunately clients always give us so much money and such reasonable deadlines that we are able to explore all these wonderful things out there. .... (pause for laughter...) right?
