Hi,

We have an exterior file linked into a main/central file. I am trying to drop ceilings into the main model file without having to 'sketch' them individually. This works fine when all the walls of the room are in the main model, but does not work when there are 3 walls that are interior and 1 wall from the exterior linked file.

The exterior file is set to room bounding, and creates enclosed rooms just fine. All the walls are set to room bounding also.

Does anyone have an idea of what this might be?

Thanks.

At this time, the ceiling tool does not recognize room bounding objects (walls) in linked files. I know it seems like it should, but it just has not been programmed to do that yet. Hopefully this will be addressed in future releases.

Im really curious how that will work out. When you move walls in the exterior linked file will it adjust the ceilings?

Sounds interesting, ill have to watch out for that in future releases. :)

Ceilings are getting better.
I was pleasantly surprised yesterday to fin this out.
I was explaining to someone how you have to be really careful with placing Ceilings by Pick, because it's really easy to move a Wall, or Disjoin a couple Walls and break your Ceiling.

As I was trying to show them how easy it is to accidentally delete a Ceiling, I couldn't break it! Looks like 2009 is way more forgiving than earlier versions about that kind of thing. Then, the very same day, I read Steve Stafford's blog entry:

http://revitoped.blogspot.com/2008/10/revit-mep-rehost-multiple-items.html

So, I'm no longer afraid to encourage people to use the automatic pick option for Ceilings. And I have faith that we'll be able to use Linked files before long.
