It seems that there is no "material category" to choose to make a new "material"schedule, which may list cost, manufacture, color, etc. Any tip? thanks

You can use multi-category schedule.

Thanks for the reply. But I still havent quite get it. What I want is to create a schedule which will list some project and shared parameters of material identity. I'm new in creating schedules.Any help is greatly appreciated.

Try a material takeoff schedule.
Select View > New > Material Takeoff.
For fields, scroll down to Material:Cost, Material:Manufacturer, etc

The material take-off option is only available from the menus not from the design bar.

I am looking to something similar, bit the take off schedule does not work for my needs. The problem is the take-off type of schedule list all of the actual materials in the project. I would like something much simpler that I can use to key into the finish schedule. My ultimate goal would be to make this a key schedule so I can populate my finish schedule with it.
Attached is a very simplistic example of what I am trying to do

You can use a wall schedule, and only include the parameters for materials. Then, fill in that information under the parameters for materials, either comments, type comments, or whatever.
I do it that way, with a filter on the schedule to only include the materials that have a particular field filled in, and that is where i key in the CC-1, etc. Plus, i use those for material tagging the elevations, so it stays coordinated.
