I do free lance work architectural work using 2008. Up to know I have been able to plot one clients drawings with out problems and on the others I have get to the plot dialog box and their cbt file is missing. I open cad the same way, both files are located in the same place;
OPTIONS-DEVICE DRIVER FILE SEARCH PATH-C:PROGRAM FILES........ and I have added one path to my network location. How do I get both cbt files to be recognized? It got worse this morning when both CBT files are listed as missing.
Thank You in Advance

Not sure about 2008, but in most cases the OOTB location for plotstyles (not drivers) is:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Autodesk\<your app>\enu\Plot Styles

It used to be in C:\Program Files\Autodesk <your app>\Plot Styles
Either way you need to make sure AutoCAD's plot styles folder is in you're support path under preferences.
Its in the Files>Printer Support File Path>Plot Style Table Search Path

I would check to see if you're support file path is to the correct location.

Also, if you didn't change anything, did the plot styles change?
Are you seeing .stb files and no .ctb files?
If so, look into the "convertpstyles" command

If you drop your ctb files in a directory suspiciously like this one: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Autodesk\ACD-MEP 2008\enu\Plot Styles, then restart your AutoCad, they should be found fine.

How do you get in on the network location?
Under your options, change the polt styles path to the the network location. Make sure that all your ctb's and your client ctb's are parked there.

How do you get in on the network location?

In options under Files -> Printer support File Path -> Plot Style Table Search Path, and browse to change the location to a network or shared drive.

Is there a way to have both a local and a network location? Sometimes I work off line and it would be helpful.

Not that I can see in 2008, you might want to experiment with linebreakers in the path though, like having two full paths with a semi-colon between them or something...?

Set up a different Profile possibly?
Not sure, 'cause I don't use profiles, but I would think if you set up a profile with that path for your ctb's it would work.

To duplicate a folder from network to local, you could use some automatic replicating prog. Doing a Google search I found this http://www.karenware.com/powertools/ptreplicator.asp Basically, you give it a source folder & destination folder. Then set it to check at regular intervals if the source has changed. If it finds anything's changed then it copies the new version to the destination, overwriting if necessary.

This way, you don't need to change the search folder / swap profiles. Just have this util running in the background with a sufficiently small interval (say 30 min). Whenever someone updates the styles on network, you'll have it on your pc within 30 min max.

Add a shortcut link to your network (or local) location within your designated plot style location. You can also do this with plotters.
