View Full Version : Linked Model
We are using RAC09 and have a structural model linked in. In our last project when there were walls that went through columns, the wall would be cut by the column. But here you can still see the walls going through the column.
I have attached some pictures. When you change the detail levels, you can see that in course the column does have an affect on the wall, but why does it stop at that?
Thanks

Since it is linked model, there isn't a way for the columns to cut the wall. I am not sure of the version before that was used and if it was a link model before. If my memory serves me correctly, even if the structural column resides in the model, it won't cut the wall unless you can join geometry, but I am not sure if it is possible to join those two geometry. Maybe before it wasn't a structual column residing in the model and it was a architectural column. however, if it was an architectural column, the architectural column usual takes on the material of the wall.
Unsure why the wall in your second image shows through the column. maybe the column isn't full height?
We were using RAC08 and they were using Struct08, only difference now is that we are both using 09.
I will say its, not that the column "cut" the wall, it displayed like that, the wall was still there, the column just made so that the wall wouldn't be shown.

I do know that linking should 'respect' the author's work and responsibilities. If you load both models in Navisworks and perform a clash detection, then you'll probably notice some errors that would usually only show up in the construction process.
Conclusion: edit your model or have the other ofice edit theirs so there's no clash.
Its not a matter of clashing that i am worried about. It is about the appearance of the drawings. In a previous project that we did in 08, where there was a wall going through a column (that was in the linked model), we would not see that portion of wall. Its a cleanup issue.
