I've been reading a lot around here - I guess it's time for my first post.

I am modifying an OOTB section head and would like to change the insertion point for the family. I can move the intersection of reference planes, but when I try to edit the element properties of the reference planes, the "Defines Origin" box is grayed out and not editable. What am I missing?

Obviously, I could create the family from scratch, but it seemed easier to modify an existing family. Maybe this isn't the case...

Many thanks,
Greg

I believe that those options are unavailable because these are “system” families. Instead move your family content where you want it in relation to the OOTB insertion point.

Thanks for your response. I've been out of commission with a licensing exam and office move.

My problem with moving the content is that the section head has two insertion points. So if I move the content to line up with one insertion point, when I cut a section looking the opposite way the other insertion point is incorrect. I guess those are just the limits of modifying a system family.

Two insertion points? I don’t get it! Wanna post?

Better yet, post an example of what you want the final graphic to look like.

If you look at the section head template you'll find the instructional note telling you that the right and horizontal ref planes can't be moved because they determine the connection point for the section line. If you need to move the graphics they'll need to move to the left.

AJH - Thanks for your help. It sounds like I have been talking about the "connection point for the section line" instead of the insertion point as I've been calling it.

Dimitri - Thanks, that cleared everything up. I was trying to edit the section head family that was already loaded into the model without thinking about the template. When I started from the template I was able to shift the left reference plane and everything looks great now.
