View Full Version : Setting up lineweights?

I have a few questions on setting up line weights and where to find the location to change them.
1. I would like my sub-regions on the site to be heavier. Where can I find this?
2. I want to have the dimension strings heavier as well. Do not see where I can do this.
3. On my Elevations, I want to have the corners of the walls to be thicker and the plans to
stay the same. Isn't the projection for plans only or is that on elevations as well?
4. I have an Existing home and attaching more to it. I wanted to have the Existing Elevations
shown as half tone and found that on phases, but do not want it globally. Would like the
plans a little darker but do not want to make them on the sheets as complete. Where
could I make these changes?
Thanks for the help.

I'm only attempting to answer #4.
In order to change the existing building in some views but not globally, you'll have to use a view filter. In order to select just the existing walls, and not the new, you have to do a little prep work, no way around it. The easiest way is to activate worksets (if you haven't already. The existing building portions to remain need to be on a unique workset, separate from the new construction. Typically I have named it "Existing Building" (Really original, I know) When the existing building to remain is on this workset, then the view filter can bet set to walls, on "Existing Building" workset. View filters cannot use phase as a crteria, but they can use workset.

If youre going to go the filter route, i would just use the Comments Field of the walls themselves, to contain the word *EXISTING*. We have Phasing Tool to control Phases, if you start using worksets to do the same task as well, its one more manual check you have to do that can get you in trouble later. I suppose its the same with commenting EXISTING on all existing pieces.... But thats why i would actually use the Phasing Graphic overrides. :)

I would try the subcatagories of Topography under Settings > Object Styles, but im not certain that controls the subregions.
2. I want to have the dimension strings heavier as well. Do not see where I can do this.
Settings > Annotations > Dimensions > Linear. Lineweights are in there.

I wouldnt touch this one, itll be manual through and through. Override graphics in view by object, or lineweight tool is about the only way thats going to work for you... And itll always be manual at best, without some trickery...

What i do is use the Phase Filter override, but not at halftone. I use Override Line Color, and set it to the dark gray. As long as your PLOT SETTINGS arent set to plot colors black, this will soften the existing stuff, but not as much as the halftone would.

All Good suggestions. The added advantage of the view filter rout, however to filter it, is that the surface patter on existing walls can be modified in elevations, or turned off. Then in-fill portions if set correctly, will show a brick hatch indicating that the contractor has infill work to perform on that wall. I've not had luck in the field with using different tonal values for the new versus existing brick. After the contractor has the print out in the sun for awhile, these differences begin to fade out.

You can still adjust the fill patterns with the Phase Filter Graphic Overrides... To either a modified pattern, or none at all.
As i tend to agree with you on the tonal values, i have mine set to not show a surface pattern for an existing wall. That way it is a light outline (dark gray), with no pattern, contrasting with new work being a black line with a black surface pattern. :)

From the Advanced Model Graphics, try Silhouette Edge.
