Anyone know of a render farm management tool (other than backburner) that can detect if a user is logged onto their workstation and if they are NOT, then manager software will send render jobs to that machine?

Thanks.

I'm unaware of one that can do that...though that would be cool. I generally just use DR and the users on the computers just feel a slowdown while i'm hijacking their computer. let me know if you need more info and i'll round up all the links to the available render management programs out there.

It is possible to have a render server assigned a job only if it has been idle for x minutes, and it's also possible to have it assigned a job if it's running less than an allowed number of programs. I'm not sure if you can do it only when a user is logged in -- I set up bb as a service with its own account.

Take a look at this article (http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1697,1847413,00.asp), it has some great info.

I came across this a while back but couldn't find the link again until now. I haven't used it but it looks like it addresses a lot of the usual network rendering issues and has functions to address idle workstations, etc.
