Just got through modeling, about to start working on the animation, then materials and lighting. Any feedback is welcomed and appreciated.

Nice work... what program did you use to create the model?
Inventor?
Vanilla AutoCAD 3D?
Something else?

Max by itself. They had started to use Solidworks, but stopped when we all realized none of their constraints translated over to max.

Thanks! I've got a small portion of the animation done; I'll see if I can't render out a little bit of it to show -- it really looks like a transformer then :)
They're doing this weird programming deal that takes my max scene and brings it into an environment much like a 3d acrobat file, so I'm still not sure what kind of lighting they require. That shouldn't affect my materials too much (all warning labels and camo). That should be fun.

Here's a quick animation to give you an idea of the movements (and the transformers-like aspect). Gotta unzip it. :)

It's Flash format. Decent quality, highly compressible, in wide use. Besides, it's the preferred format of one of my clients and I get in the habit of making those instead of .mpg or .avi.

No not really, been working on other stuff, but I'll be back on it before too long. I'll give an update when I get a chance.

Quick and dirty update. I'm fixing a few problems this weekend and am going to render out an animation fer the army. There's quite a bit wrong with this rendering, but you're more than welcome to highlight all of them - you may point out something I didn't notice. Btw, I didn't do the surrounding environment at all, that was all through the use of Dosch Designs. They've saved me so much time over the past few years...

The light coming through the tires was bothering me too much, so I changed it to a two-sided material and I'm back for another quick couple more.
I wish I could lighten up the shadows a bit. I'm not using anything but the mr daylight system, and have adjusted the camera settings as much as I can and have lowered the shadow density as much as possible. The only other thing I know to do with the ds is to raise the exposure, which blows out the highlights (it's really more overexposed than I'd like as is...).
Also really digging the new environments I've got. I've used Dosch for cars and people and such, but these are awesome. They're really going to help speed up my workflow. My old (hand-made) environments were okay, but these are much better. I never get paid for putting more work into the surroundings, so this will be a welcome relief and a step up from my previous efforts.
As always, comments welcome. :)
