View Full Version : Make object unprintable?

I thought anything visible in the view can be printed. But I noticed, the "Reference Planes" is not visible during printing. Is there a setting for this? The reason I ask is I have an imported CAD file for my site creation reference and it would be cool if I can make this unprintable but always in view for quick reference.

When you look at the Print Setup dialog you should see a check box to hide reference planes...this is unchecked by default.

There isn't a way to make an object or CAD files to not print. There isn't a "noplot" layer in Revit. What we have done is created views for working that show the CAD files and Printing views that is set up the way we want to print with all the visibility settings correct.

Thanks for the info Steve/Ngan. I only hope they expand the "Options" in the "Print Setup" in the future.

Though you would think adding a no-print feature would be good, I think you would eventually find that the method mentioned of having a working view and a print view better. This keeps things pure to the What You See is What You Get logic of Revit. Once you add the ability to make some stuff not print, but visible on the screen you get back into the potential that the drawings in print don't look like you expected and it increases the potential for error.

In your particular example, I have one user here that likes to use the show hidden objects when he wants to reference the CAD underlay. You would simply link in the CAD file and then make it hidden. Any time you want to reference it you just click on the show hidden objects (light bulb) at the bottom of the window click again to turn it off and print as needed. Just an idea... may not work effeciently depending on what you got going on in your project.

I never thought of that. I tried it and it fits perfectly in my workflow. Thanks.
