The help file has a step by step set of instructions built in. "Creating a Custom Pattern"

I must have been calling it the wrong thing cause I couldn't find that earlier; I was looking in my hard copy of the User Guide and didn't find it in there either.

Thanks

is there a way to tell Revit it is a metric pattern or do I have to convert it to english units

do a search for creating autocad.pat files it is a "language" that revit adopted. Part of that language is the units, you can prefix the text in the .pat file with the units you want to use.

take a look at the revit-metric.pat file in your data directory.

Hi Thomas
You have to define the units in the beginning of the pat file. this is how you define it.
;%UNITS=MM
Remember to define if you want it to be a Model Pattern, here is an example.

*Block 200x400, 190x390mm blocks running bond 10mm joint
;%TYPE=MODEL
0, 0, 0, 0, 200
90, 0, 0, 200, 200, 200, -200
