Checking out the IPJ File

We are currently working on implementing vault at our company and a debate has come up, when using vault do you have to check out the ipj to work on parts? The general consensus is no but one guy here says yes. We say you only check out the ipj when you want to edit it, other then that it stays up in the vault dictating things.

You're correct. You don't have to check out the *.ipj for model editing.

The only time you need to check out the *.ipj file is to modify it. I've seen a couple of cases where the *.ipj file is checked out by an admin or other 'power user' type of person to prevent OTHER users from making unauthorized project modifications.
