View Full Version : System Abbreviation Parameters

I was trying to find a way to tag pipes with a shared parameter that would read a system abbreviation paramter that I created called "Piping System Abbreviation" (i.e. CWS for chilled water supply, HWR for hot water return, etc.). I was unsuccessful in achieving what I was intending to do since a pipe tag only reads parameters from the pipe and not from the system (at least not custom shared parameters on the system).

Currently in order to tag our hydronic piping with the system abbreviation we need to have a pipe type for each system (i.e. HWS, HWR, CWS, CWR, etc.). The pipe tag then reads the type mark set for that pipe type. The problem is that you have to constantly ensure your pipe type is set correctly for the desired system. If you aren't paying attention, can use the wrong pipe type for the wrong system and when you tag the pipes they will be incorrect.

It would be better to have some way of getting the pipe to read a custom user shared parameter on the piping system that you could set as the abbreviation. This would allow us to have just a hydronic pipe type or maybe just a chilled water or hot water pipe type and the abbreviation tag would read from the system shared parameter. This would also prevent conflicting information from occuring.

Thanks!

Hi Joe,

refer to attached sample. I've created a tag that has a 'shared parameter' for the system. this means you don't need to have multiple types, only specify the 'system' once connected, and the rest just fall into place
