Decals wont show up in rendering

I'm trying to add a decal on a wall behind some glass. When I go to render this, I get an error that says:

The following render appearance images are missing:
Decal 1.jpg

When I go into the decal properties, the file path is correct and I see the correct preview for the decal image, however it can't seem to find it when it renders. Has anyone else run into this and know how I can fix it?

It's good to know... I haven't used decals yet (obviously) but I am planning in a near future, so this tip is very valuable.

i'm doing some internal layouts for a nursery classroom and wanted to show kids drawings on the notice board. When I put them on as decals they woudn't show up in the rendering. put the same drawing on the wall and it showed no problem. After some experiments I discovered that if I changed the notice board to Notice Board Wall Based the decals showed up on the notice board beautifully.
