has anyone dealt with creating floor patterns, such as tile, carpet... Is the best way to create a new floor @ say 3/8" thick and assign the material so it will schedule? Can room seperation be used in different views to define floor pattern areas? All the alternatives seem to be very manual for finishes, their legends and schedules... A good push in the right direction would be great. I have tried the room seperators but cannot control them between finish plans and construction plans. Try to define an area of tiles with a diff. pattern for the legend reference but not much success to speak of yet.

You can either place another floor as you have described which will give you takeoffs etc... If scheduling is not critical, you can use the split face tool and then use the paint bucket tool to apply different materials to a particular area.

when you make your floor, you could create a layer for the finish to be applied to, like you instead of a separate floor altogether. that way in section, you could show the, floor slab, and the floor finish on top, to get the total floor thickness that you were going for.

I personally like the additional floors, for this.

I model the slab as one floor, the finishes as another. This way, the finishes are only inside the room itself, which works nice because then (as many people here do) you can use a floor slab edge as a base/crown, instead of haggling with wall sweep ends and dragging them across the building.

The only issue that comes up is which one is at the LEVEL, and which one is above and below, but IMHO its GOOD that it comes up, so people are focusing on the details of the ARCHITECTURE while they work, haha....

OK, It depends upon what you want to get out of the model. IF you want area take-offs, then you'll have to either split-face on the floor slab, and "paint" the materials into those areas, or Model a thin floor slab, offset above the structural slab, one floor style for every floor finish. If you get into multiple colors, then you can split the finish material floor and paint the materials/patterns in. Both schemes can be "tagged" with either a floor tag, or in the case of a split-face situation, a material tag. Neither of these will tie into the finish schedule that is a part of the Room objects. That is an either or. Yes, Interior Design work, with serious design gets fairly manual. There is no other way around it.
