Hi Guys,
Whats your approach to Keynoting for eg.
a Plumbing Fixture that has been demolished,
And using the Same "type" in the 'New' phase.
Revit wants to assigned only 1 keynote regarding of demoed or new...
Your help will be greatly appreciated, thanks guys!
We use noteblocks with annotation symbols in lieu of keynotes. We have found that this method is the most flexible for how we document our drawings.

Hi Jcoe,
That's what we used to do previously. But our Architects wanted to standardize the keynotes and minimize its lengthy notes to only few descriptive words....a plus, to avoid any confusion with contractors.
So here I am... :-D
My job is to find the solution!

All families in the existing phase need to be renamed for keynotes to function properly (e-SPECS as well). Almost all third party as well as the majority of the functions in Revit are not "Phase Aware" meaning that they do not pay attention to the phasing. That is the only way a custom set of keynotes will work for demolition.

We use the normal keynote system for the main drawings, and just use a series of user keynotes for the demolition drawings. It's not perfect, but it allows you to use your standard keynote table and system for both without having to have seperate families for existing, demo, & new. The main draw back is that you will have to select the keynote each time instead of Revit remembering it for the demo stuff. So I guess it depends on how many times you have to put the keynote in if it's worthwhile...
edit: incidentally, we are not using especs (although we are looking into it). If you are using especs this system will not work, as mentioned
