I didn't see a service pack 2 for 2002. There is a service pack 1. Possible typo?

Do you mean Service pack 2 for Autocad or Service Pack 2 for Windows XP?
Service pack 2 for Win XP fixes critical security errors and leaks in the Win XP operating system and i believe is not recommended to install if running ACAD 2002, Service pack 2 for Autocad would be fine to install as it would improve the performance of the ACAD software
