View Full Version : Match Tool Undo?
How do you back out of a match tool operation?
I was running some operations tests and I ran into a procedure that pobably has a simple solution but I can seem to find it.
I assigned a keynote value to a wall and performed a Match Tool operation on an adjacent wall. I wanted to back out of the operation and assign a different value to the second wall but the walls were linked such that I could not change one without the other wall being assigned the same keynote value.
Is there a way to disassociate these elements without completely deleting one and creating a new element.
Thanks

Why not just cut the object out (Ctrl-X) and then paste back into the same place?

If I understood, what you did when you used the match tool, was make the two walls exactly the same type. And if that's the case, changing the keynote of one will also change the other one from the same type. You should use a different wall type to have a different keynote to that wall.
Unless I didn't get it right...

Match properties matches ALL properties, not just the one you want. So, I think Andre is right. The Keynote is a type value, not an instance value. So, if you matched the walls they're going to have the same keynote until you change the type of one of the walls.
Thanks,
The cut / paste operation doesn't work. That was my first thought and attempt at a corrective solution.
A different wall type works. It resets the keynote value to <none>, however if I return to the original wall type it re-establishes the original keynote.
I believe this is being caused by the keynote type. I used "Element" rather than "User"
"Element" is a "Type" parameter and assigns itself to the wall type. Hence all walls of the
same type have the same keynote.
"User" is an instance parameter and assigns a unique value to each wall.
I have a feeling this subtle difference may present quality control issues with staff unfamiliar to this difference. Has anyone run into issues with this keynote be improperly applied? I'd love to hear how you addressed this.

Absolutely right. User keynotes are useful for custom notes that you want specific for an element, but not all elements from that type.
From the help:
Element. A keynote can be applied to an entire element, such as a wall, detail component, or door.
Material. A keynote can be assigned to a material that has been painted on a surface, and to materials assigned to the component layers of an element. Keynotes are not supported for the insulation drafting command or the detail components line and filled region.
User. This option provides a way to use commonly used notes or phrases to address documentation issues. These additional user notes must be added to the provided keynote text files or included in one that you create.
