Hi,

We have been upgrading from Land Desktop 2002 to Civil 3D 2008 (big jump), previously in land I would import aerial images from the NYSGIS webiste using Map>Image>Insert.

NYSGIS is now using the .jp2 format for aerial imagery, I cannot seem to import the images into Civil 3D as an image insert and have had to use the Data Connection tool. I am running into a few problems:

1. I cannot move the aerials in the dwg, our surveys are often on an assumed coordinate system so I need to move the aerials to the location of the survey, but I cannot select and move them.
2. when trying to Xref a drawing with aerial images into another drawing the aerials attached through data connection do not show.

Data Connection is new to me, so I am not sure if there is a problem with how I am using that tool, or if it just doesn't work with Xrefs.

Is there a way to bring in .jp2 aerials and be able to move or xref them?

Thanks,
Jeannine

To be able to move the images, go to Map - Options then cut the frames on. You need to load the Raster Image Enabler offered by Auto Desk to use the jp2 format. The problem with the data connection is that it will tie that image up and not let you do much else with it if the drawings open. It also messes with the image and causes little bugs to pop up.
