I am a new user currently making my way thru the tutorials and have a two part
question:

1. Does anyone have a list of keyboard shortcuts they would like to share for Revit Arch '09? Looking for standard shortcuts and custom.

2. I am making my way thru the tutorials and was wondering if anyone had feedback on the book by Paul F. Aubin Mastering Revit Architecture 2009? As many learning a new program I am looking to get the most bang for the buck when it comes to training manuals (i.e. limited time to learn as much as possible as quickly as possible!). I'm thinking of abandoning the training tutorials in favor of this book. Any advice for a 20 year 2D CAD veteran is appreciated.

Custom shortcuts that i've found to be especially useful:

'RR' - Rotate
'MM' - Move
'QQ' - Edit Properties (especially useful)
'DD' - Dimension
'AA' - Align
'SS' - Split Walls and Lines (SS is by default bound to “Turn Override Off” for snaps, so that must be changed to ””)
'TT' - Trim/Extend

When we bring a new hire on, we allocate a week for them to run through the tutorials. That has been the best bang for the buck in our opinion. They get you around all of the concepts and at least introduce you to the available features. I'd recommend you devote time to that, then use the book to go deeper on advanced topics.

I haven't used Aubin's book for the record.

Thanks for all of the great advice and shortcut tips, the lists are taped to the wall!
I am hoping with more time and repetition it won't be too long to be semi-productive. I am a 20 year 2D user, so any other tips are appreciated greatly. Especially interested to hear from others who were strictly 2D and how long it took them to get up and running with Revit, with a good grasp of the functionalities of the program. Guess I need some encouragement, I've got the motivation but need to stay on course with this.

jump in with both feet and don't look back. if you hear the inevitable rants about "lets dump to ACAD and finish this thing" stick with Revit and lean on this group to help answer your questions. the further you go the more questions you'll have but that is how learning works.
welcome to the gang!

Thanks all. I finally am having more downtime, and as such more time to dedicate to learning the program. I am really liking it, and the shortcuts have been helping. I have not gotten the book yet, but instead decided to make my way through the tutorials. Right now I am concentrating on learning the basics and trying not to get too far ahead of myself!
