You shouldn't have to delete them and make new ones. If you edit one to make it overlap another pad you will get a warning and the only options from there will be to keep editing or delete one. If you post a little more information about the problem you're having, like what you're trying to do or what errors you're getting, you will probably get some better answers.

it hasn't been any big deal to delete the pad and redraw it...its finished now pad 1 is 6" below existing floor and pad 2 is 6" below that...it works just like it needs to....my question is when i selected the first pad i drew and wanted to change it i assumed i would select it and be given an option to edit it (change its shape).....and wasn't......so, i just deleted it and redraw.....is there an option to edit the pad's shape?

wait....i was looking at the pad in section and selected it....there i was given the opportunity to "edit" the pad....was given a plan to work in and made the change quickly....i was expecting to see "edit" option in my plan view (may not have been selecting the actual pad)....seemed to be though, may have just selected toposurface

That's where the TAB key comes very handy. Usually it is easier to select it in section or 3D view and using TAB to read if you are picking the right element.

It's also helpful to look in the bottom left corner of the screen while you're tabbing through things. It will show exactly what you're highlighting (before you select it). You can defintely edit pads in plan though.
