have an extrusion of a cmu 24x24x8 but now want to put a 2in hole in the side of it. how is the put in... or can it...

Ray,

To create the CMU extrusion you probably have used the solid extrusion tool. To create the hole, you will have to use the void extrusion tool. But since the hole is in the side of the CMU extrusion, you will have to define that side to be the workplane for the new extrusion. To do that, go to the elevation view where you can best sketch your hole, select Void extrusion (I assume you are editing your family), select "Plane", Pick a new plane, select the plane where you want the hole and sketch it. Finish the void extrusion, go to a 3D view to be able to adjust the depth of the void and make sure it is crossing the CMU. The last step will be selecting the Cut Geometry tool, select the void and select the CMU. This will create the hole you want.
