showing outline of canopy above

What’s the proper way of getting a canopy slab on floor 2 to show on floor 1 dashed? The two methods I’ve tried:

1- Changing View Range (changing the Top offset number) but that doesn’t seem to change anything, am I missing something here?
2- Drawing some lines and locked them to the canopy slab outline, they update automatically but I’m not sure this is the best process on the long run.

What’s the recommended way?

Turn on the underlay in your 1st floor view, and set the underlay to your 2nd floor view. You should see the canopy in halftone. Now using your linework tool, change some of those lines denoting the edge of the canopy to an overhead dashed line. Turn off the underlay. The dashed lines will remain visible in your 1st floor view, and they are part of the canopy. If you move the mouse over those dashed lines, the whole canopy will pre-highlight (which is sometimes good, but can also be annoying).
