since there are no "polyline" in revit, is there a way to get a summary of the length of a set of continuous line, aka: in autocad = property of the total length of a polyline

John, have a look at the Tape measure tool in the toolbar icons.
you have the option to chain, therefore giving you total length.

i should have been more clear

what i really need is to have a way to queary the total length of a host of lines, and display its value in revit

like

the total length of a "common path of travel"

Best you can do is make a generic line based family with a shared length parameter. Place those in for the path and then tag each one with length. You'll then have to create a schedule and filter it to get the total length. Such as Filter for items with a comment "Path A" and total the scheduled length.
