We just recently purchased some new workstations as we are begining our Revit 2009 implementation. All seems to be running pretty well but noticed when moving a view window or dialog boxes around on the screen, the following is occuring. (see attached image). Once the dialog box is unclicked the trailing effect disappears.

Workstation Specs:

HP XW4600
Intel® CoreT 2 Duo E6850 3.00 GHz, 4 MB, 1333 MHz FSB
NVIDIA Quadro FX370 256MB PCIe
HP 4GB (4x1GB) DDR2-800 ECC RAM (E-STAR=M)
HP 250GB SATA 3Gb/s NCQ 7200 1st HDD (E-STAR=M, H)

I do not have the 3G switch enabled in the boot.ini and have not tried that option. We do not do a ton of rendering so I figured the 256MB video card would be sufficient. Revit it self runs fine, it just when moving views and dialog boxes around.

Any thoughts is appreciated.

I have seen that before in other programs but not sure of the cause.

Revit runs just fine on 128MB of ram. More is not necessary at all. I'm not familiar with the Quadro FX370 cards. Are those more low end than the FX500 series? I'm running an FX550 128MB card on my quad-core machine, and Revit runs and renders quite fast.

Its a Windows things.

Go to the display properties (rightclick on the desktop, then properties)
Select the Appearance Tab
Click the Effects button
uncheck the tick box for "Show window contents while dragging"

oh haha duhh my machine does that, too. I guess I've just learned to ignore it over the years and don't even notice it anymore.

So my answer then is, it's not a big deal.

But I decided to turn it off just now, so that I only see an outline while dragging a window. It's not really important to me to be able to see the window contents while dragging it around, and I'm sure it uses a tiny bit fewer resources that way. :)

MTYP,

Thanks for pointing that out, that did fix the problem. A few of my users were complaining about it, not a big deal to me, but it always good to know what was causing it.

Thank you again.
