I have hired a contract revit detailer who is going to do some detailing for me to finish up a project. I need the ability to merge his work and mine into a final model for editing to produce a final project for my client. The contractor is only going to be working on the project for about a week while I also work on the project. I will then need to have access to his work to make modifications if needed to complete the final project. We do have access to a ftp site, but we cannot share a server.

I am sure this is an issue that others have run up against so do not want to spin my wheels looking for a workaround when there might already be a solution out there. My gut feeling is copy/monitor will not work for my future needs to edit the project myself.

The other motivation is that this is my first revit project where I have used revit to produce the construction documents so the contractor will be producing project specific details and standard details and I want to have a clean archtitectural model to use as a project template.

Any recommendations on based way to proceed?

If these are just drafting details - no big deal. Give him either the template or the started project and let him create the deatils. You can merge them into your project at any point using the Insert from File command under File. Really quite easy.

If he is detailing over a model - that is more difficult. That will require some copy/paste from his project to your's.

I have cut the wall sections and done a typical wall section. He is going to finsih up the wall sections using detail components and linework. Might need to do some masking or filled regions. Along with the wall sections he will produce additional details.

I had thought getting his model then copy to clipboard and pasting into my model might be the work around, but wondered if there were other solutions.
