Railing to Roof Access

Does anyone have any suggestions for creating the stair railing at a roof hatch? The stair would go all the way up the roof hatch and the railing would get cut down to be parallel to the roof plane.

Yes, but unfortunately not with the railing tool. Voids and other geometry do not 'join' or 'cut' the railings so that methodology will not be available. In these instances, you will have to have a separate family entity (Generic, faced-based or similar) made to represent the handrails for the stairs in lieu of the railing family. Just use the same profiles, etc. in the sweeps in the family as you did in the railing family.
