inverse section box

is there a way to use the section box so that what is visible is outside the box rather than in it, I tried a void box but it will not cut a lot of the elements like families etc.

no, but that would be cool. You could semi-assemble something like that with several section boxes placed next to each other on a sheet, I've done that a few times. It's not particularly fast, but it works if that's the type of view you need.
