Roof Joins vs. Demolition Phase - images

I have a bit of a problem with these roofs.

The little returns get demolished, but if I join them to the roof which remains, it has triangles cut out of it in the new construction phase.

If I don't join them, my existing roof has trianles showing on it.

What would you do here?

Linework?, don't worry about it, it will be dashed on the demolition drawing?

Something I don't know about in my noobness?

I'm having a difficult time deciphering the image. What little returns are you referring to?

I'm not entirely sure also about what you are describing but as a general rule in doing alterations to roofs in phases, I always copy the existing roof to the clipboard while in a new construction view, demolish the roof, then paste aligned to same place the roof - which creates completely separate new construction and existing phase roofs.

Otherwise alterations to the roof in new construction phase will show up in existing phase views.
