View Full Version : Wall Based Family Problem

I built a family of nested casework and a countertop in a wall-based template. When I loaded and placed it in my model, it was oriented 3" from the wall centerline, rather than at the wall's face. I assumed a template would be set up to work from the wall's face.

Anyone know what I can do to fix this?

Thanks!

You need to constrain everything to the walls face (or the reference plane "wall face" in the family. It is not enough to go in the template and simply model stuff up against the wall.

I havent opened it, but im guessing thats what it is. The default wall in the template is 6" thick, so modeling stuff up against the wall would put it 3 inches from the CL of wall.

Go in the family, select the wall and edit the thickness. Does your created geometry move to accomodate the new thicker wall? If not, constrain it so it does. Then it should work on any sized wall...

Cool. I aligned and constrained to the 'wall face' reference.

Also noticed that the reference line in the center of the default wall is checked as 'defining origin' and swapped that setting with the 'wall face' reference. I'm not sure that made any difference but I've got it working now and need to keep plugging.

Thanks TRF!
