I'm trying to create an arrow to callout all the roof joists. I've created a joist tag that rotates perpendicular to the span. Now I'm trying to create an arrow with pick boxes at each end to call out all the roof joists. I was just going to move the joist tag over the arrow so that when I change the joist type the call-out updates. The problem I'm having is the arrow family I created doesn't have pick boxes at each end. I have to go into the arrow properties and set the length of the arrow and then move it into place. Not the end of the world, but it would be easier if I could just highlight the arrow and drag it to length. Any ideas?
Right now my arrow family is two parallel reference planes with the dimension between them a length parameter.
Annotation families don't give you the instance parameter handles, but you could try nesting your arrows heads into a detail component or even a line based detail component.

I have done something along these lines for two items. One being a ramp arrow with circle at the base end, and arrow head at the top (the revit one is really ugly).
Also, an extent leader to show reinforcement (which is pretty much the same as what you are after except without the arrow heads).
Works perfectly, and was extremely simple. The only problem is I guess, that the text is not part of the family although if you wanted to add a paramater to it as a type tag then you probably could do that pretty easily.
I've attached a quick modification I did to my existing extents line. (Please note I didnt draft the arrow heads up at "standard" size. I just quickly drew something in to see if it would work. If you are going to keep it and use it, just make sure you draw the arrow heads up properly.)
Cheers
