Help!! Trying to create new family tag is driving me crazy

I am trying to create generic annotation tags that look the same but have different text. I have created the tag but when I edit the family to create a different version, it doesn't apply the new text to just the new family but changes all the tags. What am I doing wrong!!! Help I have spent way too much time on this!!

It sounds to me like you made it a type parameter, but im not sure.

Check out the attached family. It uses a label for a type parameter. So if you load it in the project, it will let you type in the Question Mark, which will change ALL of the instances of "a version."

So if you want a few typical notes, hit Edit New > Duplicate and name it "Typical note about doors" or something. NOW change the note, and only the new TYPE will change, instead of all of the previous ones.

But if you only hit Edit/New and NOT duplicate, it will change all of them...
